SAGE, WHAT THE HECK?!

Welcome to the FAQ, also known as the "Sage, what the heck?!" page!

You'll find explanations of terms, why I approach things a particular way, and clarification on questions I've been asked in the past. If it isn't here, ask me! Not only is it possibly a question someone else has, but you've also given me another entry!

  • That depends entirely on each student, what they can handle, what the reason for sessions is, and so forth. Most students who aren't doing college applications do best somewhere between one and two hours a week, depending on their specific needs.

    College application students are a different kettle of fish in terms of needs, and I've usually discussed that with you when you first registered with Wisdom Education. If you don't remember or aren’t sure, just ask!

  • A little tongue-in-cheek, the amount of time spent together.

    However, the more accurate answer is generally the amount or depth of information we discuss. There are some things that may only need 30 minutes: an essay revision, a quick check-in before a test, doing some revision work before continuing independently, and so forth.

    There are also plenty of things that need 60 minutes to properly sort through.

  • You only want to work with me on one specific thing for a specified amount of time, and you have no intention of continuing after we're done.

  • Of course! You can always add or subtract sessions depending on what your needs are. If you need to add sessions, you may need to be a little more flexible because I'll probably be working around other people, but it's always possible and doable.

Sessions

Family Operations

  • I try to check in with every family individually so we can get everyone on the same page; discuss any concerns, questions, or thoughts you have; give you an hour update so you know where your account stands; and double-check scheduling information.

    This time is yours, and we can cover anything you need.

  • My preference is to meet with the whole family team (for example, parent(s)/guardian(s) and student), but I also understand that isn't always possible.

  • Individually, according to their specific needs. Each student needs their own registration form, and I process their scheduling separately.

  • What, you mean like I did when I was making it?

    It means you're human. I've made sure you can edit the form, so you can always go back in and fix it.

  • Absolutely. I've made the form editable, so you should have no problems going back and adjusting things. Alternately, you can message me directly to work something out.

  • I've set the form to send you a confirmation email if you request one, so you should receive immediate feedback for that part. If you're concerned, just reach out! I'll be happy to confirm that I've received your information. Otherwise, just wait for my email!

General

  • This is the only way to be as fair as I can. Once the initial rush hits, it's much easier to tuck people into a standing schedule, but to get there, it's a bit of a chaotic free-for-all.

  • Because I do first come, first served, I want as many choices available as I can so there isn't a ton of back-and-forth and to make the process as painless for everyone as possible.

  • You can! I just can't guarantee you'll get that time.

  • For my sanity. Trying to keep track of multiple students in a single form would make me cry and you angry when something went awry.

  • Then reach out to me, and we'll see what we can do. I reserve a small amount of flexibility for unusual situations, but I do set my times carefully and with much consideration. Because Wisdom Education is just one person, I simply can't accommodate everyone's ideal schedule.

  • To help you stop and consider what sort of schedule you want. Adding time to a schedule can be a challenge, so if you know ahead of time that you only have room for 30 minutes a week or you want to spread out two hours' worth of sessions, that's a better place from which to start.

  • I take everyone's answers, stare at my calendar, and slowly slot everyone into place according to their preferences and my availability. A lot of tea. A fidget toy or two. And then a lot more staring.

  • As soon as I am sure I've got everything squared away. At the absolute latest, you will receive confirmation of your schedule within 10 business days of me receiving your registration.

Scheduling

  • That's my shorthand for acknowledging that everyone's schedule is still settling into place.

  • Schools start on different days, activities begin at different times, and it usually takes a few weeks before everyone knows what "normal" actually looks like.

    I also take a week to rest and recalibrate before the full school-year rhythm begins, and Labor Day has a habit of wandering around the calendar just enough to keep things interesting.

  • We'll weave, bob, adjust, and get everyone where they need to be. Reach out to me; August is intentionally designed to accommodate the inevitable changes that happen as everyone settles into the school year.

  • September, usually the week of or the week after Labor Day. Everyone is different, though, and I've been surprised before!

August

College Application Students

  • Yup, because there are some special rules for all y'all around scheduling and session times.

  • Yup. If you can't meet during my regular working hours, I have some sessions set aside specifically for college application students and nothing else. They're available if needed, so they aren't offered up front.

  • There will be times on the schedule when Wisdom Education is closed to regular sessions—except for college application students.

    For example, Wisdom Education closes the week of Thanksgiving. However, college application students will have a selection of hours they can schedule sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday because of the pressing application deadlines.

  • No. You still need to complete the main registration form for a standing spot on the schedule. These are simply accommodations for the heightened requirements of the college admissions process.
